Tata Steel

Field: Emission intensity (Analysis #2)

2026-09-27
Before

3.20 tCO2e/tcs reported as India-specific intensity, used in direct comparison with JSW Steel (2.44). Derived '11 Mt' annual reduction figure and '31% gap' claim.

After

Intensity figure flagged as likely wrong — 66 Mt group emissions (including Netherlands/IJmuiden) divided by India-only production (~20.6 Mt). True India intensity likely in the low 2s. Comparison removed pending sourcing of India-specific intensity. 11 Mt claim and comparison chart removed.

Why

Boundary mismatch: group emissions vs India-only production. The 3.20 figure was identical across both reported years while absolute emissions changed, suggesting a data-entry issue rather than calculated intensity.
